6th Street Bridge
I went down here with Jim, a freind and neighbor of mine who has been photographing the bridge for a few years now. He got into the channel once with an LA Conservancy tour. Before we went this day he told me we wouldn't get under the bridge. We rode our bikes south from the Cornfields and Chinatown, a mile or so away. He took me to the bridge abutments, pairs of concrete columns in a row with a cross beam at each pair, as seen in this view. I looked down the ramp between columns, saw the river abutment and said, "That's the river. Let's go down there". There were no fences or gates across the road. As it passed under the railroad yard the tunnel got dark. I hit a pothole I couldn't see. Then we came out into the riverbed!
